"Yum Yum Land."
53"h x 42"w.
"Yum Yum Land" was made from one cotton dishtowel, its colors slightly altered by dye, tea, and Prismacolor pencils, which were sprayed with a fixative. It was hand and machine appliqued, hand and machine quilted, embroidered, and embellished with tiny beads. The song verses are written to the tune of "Home on the Range."
When I first saw the towel, I thought it was the ugliest towel I had ever seen. But a challenge is always fun, and sometimes exciting, and all sorts of possibilities began racing through my mind.Much of my recent work has included trees, flowers, clouds (and snakes, which are absent here.) I began by trying to break away from these images, but the tree persisted, so here it is, my apple pie tree, growing in Yum Yum Land.
