"Anne's Brain Dreams of Pie in the Sky"

40"h x 26"w x 6"d.

Dishtowel, cotton fabrics, other fabrics, buttons, beads without holes, plastic brain, basket, gold leaf, easter grass, curtain rod.

Machine piecing, applique, and quilting; lots of glue, gilding.

I guess the theme of this quilt is something about how important our dreams are, and what happens to them as time passes. "Where did 1998 go and what was the point of it?" could be an alternate title.

Most of the year I worked on the piece was spent gilding and regilding my brain. Planning to finish it up in January and February, 1999, I was derailed by illness and unexpected responsibilities. I thought I had missed the deadline, then learned at the end of March that I had more time, and managed to finish by one day before the new deadline. So it could also be titled "Taking the Art of Procrastination to New Heights."

Or maybe "If I Knew Then What I Know Now." As I finished the piece, I realized how much more effective it might have been if I had used the dishtowel as a dishtowel for a year, found an old sink somewhere, and simply put that in the show with the limp and bedraggled towel draped across the front of it.
