This gallery shows a few paintings I made in October, 2003. The first set is "The Blossom Suite," in which St. Quilta the Comforter and the Old Bags for Peace bless the Earth. I started the suite on October 3 and finished it on October 10. Eighteen paintings in all.As of June 16, 2004, all the Blossom Paintings in the series are sold.
The paintings are each done individually, freehand. No tracing or printing involved. So each piece is totally unique, even though they share the imagery. Eighteen paintings laid all over my studio tables for 8 days, as I worked merrily along! What a joy it is to really dive into painting and let the paperwork GO!
My Peace Buddha Girls Gallery shows the paintings I began making in February, 2003, as a response to the new threat of war in our world.
The work here is all paintings I've made on cotton fabric, not stretched or framed or quilted. I used Deka Permanent Fabric Paint (yes, I still have a little, though they don't make it anymore!) I draw and write freehand with an Airpen, and use brushes to add the colors. Also I add Lumiere paint gold and pearl accents. You can buy my paintings to frame or to quilt yourself. You just need to honor my copyright and not reproduce the image for money. If you show a quilt you made with my painting, I'd like for you to give me credit for making the painting, and list my copyright of the image. All artists retain copyright on sold artwork, unless a separate agreement is made to sell the copyright.
You can have me make your Blossom painting into a quilt, too. See price below, but basically, it will cost ten times more, to have me quilt it.
As of June 16, 2004, all the Blossom Paintings in the series are sold. Look for new paintings on the site in early July. Thanks!
Each of these is a painting on unstretched fabric, using Airpen to draw and write with black fabric paint, then regular brushes to apply colors. They are all from the set of 18 paintings I've made in early October, called "The Blossom Suite." I had to make some paintings to donate to various art auctions, and some of them had themes. I put off making the paintings, being bogged down in paperwork, so when I did get to create these, the themes for the auctions merged with my diary stories. And here's what's come out.The New England Quilt Museum wanted work donated as BAGS, but I wanted to make them a painting, so I knew I had to put a bag into the piece. And Art Quilt Tahoe wanted something about FIVE, since this is their fifth year... so I needed five bags, and a five pointed star with five blessings. Peace is really on my mind right now, naturally, so the five bags became the Old Bags for Peace. And of course, St Quilta the Comforter couldn't stand it til they let her join them in her Peace Buddha Girl duds!
Peace is Blossoming, say the Old Bags for Peace!
